چکیده

Phosphatidic acid has been given a key position in the scheme of animal lipid metabolism because of its ability to serve as a presursor of a variety of animal lipids. The recent reports of the biosynthesis of phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylglycerol (1, 2) in Escherichia coli and other bacteria suggest that phosphatidic acid (in the coenzyme form, cytidine diphosphate diglyceride) will also be an important precursor of bacterial lipids. This suggestion prompted a study of the biosynthesis of phosphatidic acid in cell free systems of E. coli. The result,s to be reported in this paper demonstrate that particulate preparations of E. coli readily catalyze the phosphorylation of diglyceride by adenosine triphosphate to form cy-phosphatidic acid in a typical phosphokinase reaction.1

Biosynthesis of phosphatidic acid from lysophosphatidic acid and palmityl coenzyme A.

In the preceding paper evidence was presented for the biosynthesis of lysophosphatidic acid from monoglyceride and adenosine triphosphate (1). Exogenous monoglycende was found to stim.ulate the formation of phosphatidic acid as well as lysophosphatidic acid. This observation suggested that lysophosphatidic acid was being converted to phosphatidic acid and therefore was functioning as an interme...

Pathways for the synthesis of glycerophosphatides in Escherichia coli.

Presently available evidence indicates that phosphatidic acid is an essential intermediate in the biosynthesis of glycerophosphatides in Escherichia coli. Two alternative pathways for the synthesis of phosphatidic acid in E. coli have been proposed, one involving the acylation of L-glycerol j-phosphate, and the second the direct phosphorylation of o, /3-diglyceride, catalyzed by the enzyme digl...

Phosphatidic Acid and Glyceride Synthesis by Particles from Spinach Leaves.

For many years it has been recognized that particulate bodies within cells capable of carrying out energy transductions contain large quantities of lipids which include significant amounts of phosphatides, glycolipids, quinones, pigments and certain lipid soluble vitamins. A great deal of conjecture has been written concerning the possible role of lipids, especially those with amphipathic prope...
